Carol Christ
Dr. Amina Wadud has been a Visiting Scholar at the Starr King School for the Ministry in Berkeley, California since 2006. She is Professor Emeritus of Islamic Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, since 2008. She is author of several books among them Qur’an and Woman Re-Reading the Sacred Text From a Woman’s Perspective, 1999, and Inside the Gender Jihad: Women’s Reform in Islam, 2006.
She is currently working on the intersection between faith, or spirituality and Ethics in Islam from a gender inclusive perspective as this might impact on Muslim Family Law Reforms and Islamic theological progress.
In her work as activist-scholar she will be remembered as the Lady-Imam since 2005 and a core member of Sisters in Islam, Malaysia between 1989-2005. She has traveled extensively as consultant and partner on issues of Muslim women and Human rights In addition to University, US public services sectors and at the grass roots level in the North America, she has also traveled in East and Western Europe, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle and Far East, Northern and sub-Sahara Africa.
The mother of five children, in 2006 she became Nana to one.
